Topic: Research paper topic and abstract
Recently, I started my research paper project and me and my mentor, Ehab, decided on a topic and came up with an abstract to go with it. Ehab is currently a software engineer at Ford Motor Company and has graduated from the University of Illinois and majored in Science in Mechanical Engineering for his Bachelors and Mastered in software engineering in UIUC (University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign). The topic that we came up with after meeting a few times through zoom is
“Advanced Computer Vision and AI Techniques for Nano-Scale Quality Control in Manufacturing In the Space Industry”
This is a topic that I was very keen on researching about because the topic encompassed areas of Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science. As all three subject are interesting fields of study for me, a topic like this is one that I am very proud and glad to have.
As every research paper (at a university level) does, there is an abstract for mine as well – despite it still needing revision. The abstract for this research paper is
This paper examines the integration of advanced computer vision techniques and AI algorithms to improve quality control in the nano-scale manufacturing processes of the space industry. Nowadays, the use of nanotechnology in the space industry when manufacturing objects such as NEMS (Nanoelectromechanical Systems), solar panels, and energy storage devices. A defect or imperfection in one of those systems could result in the failure of the mission and the loss of millions of dollars invested into the project by the different organizations. In order to resolve this issue, this paper will discuss the programs and methods that can be implemented to capture and analyze nano-scale images and data in order to detect possible flaws in the machines.
This abstract incorporates the fundamental parts of the research paper and the major parts that it will focus on. As the specific planning of it is yet to be done, I will have to discuss it with my mentor but when it does, it will be posted promptly in this blog
